About Scott Gillis

Scott Gillis

Scott Gillis began studying karate in 1980. He studied Peter Urban's Goju USA  and Isshin-Ryu Karate receiving the rank of first degree black belt in both styles. Scott went on to study Capoeira and was later introduced to the Chinese internal arts, studying Liu Ha Ba Fa in New York City's Chinatown. He began studying Ba Gua Zhang and Xing Yi Chuan under Tom Bisio in 1997, simultaneously training in I-Liq Chuan under Sam Chin.

Scott has attended Xing Yi seminars featuring Vince Black and Liang Ke Quan and seminars on Yi Quan taught by Fong Ha as well as Ba Gua with Mike Martello. He has also traveled to Beijing to study Beijing Gao Family Ba Gua Zhang with Gao Ji Wu. Scott now studies Ba Gua Zhang with Tom Bisio and Xing Yi Chuan and I-Liq Chuan with Steve Arboleda. Scott is also an artist and illustrator.
